Fareham Shopping Centre hosted a
colourful event over the weekend (Saturday 22nd October and Sunday
23rd October) that raised £225 for its chosen charity, The Rainbow
Centre.
The Wish Upon a Rainbow event took place between Card Factory and H. Samuel within the mall and was opened by a spectrum of special guests including Mayor Councillor Trevor Cartwright MBE, Mayoress Mrs Ruth Cartwright and founder of The Rainbow Centre Helen Somerset How MBE.
Children and families posted their wishes and promises on the giant sized rainbow, anything from wishing the children of The Rainbow Centre health and happiness to promising to be well behaved for their parents ahead of Christmas or to complete their household chores! The money raised has gone to the charity that inspires and supports children with cerebral palsy and adults with mobility problems caused through strokes, Parkinson’s and MS.
Those that donated wishes were entered into a special prize draw where three lucky winners - Angie Parker from Titchfield, Helen Booth from Fareham Town and Trish Buttle from Stubbington - were selected at random to receive prizes from the malls stores including Boots, Bhs, Maddisons, Debenhams and Card Factory.
Fareham Shopping Centre’s mascot Toffee Bear was on hand to help shoppers out with their wishes and promises and Mike Stokes ‘The Balloon Man’ provided additional entertainment for shoppers while they joined in the fun.
Fareham Shopping Centre’s Pam Marsden, Centre Director, said: “The Rainbow Centre really is a charity that does amazing things for children and adults with mobility difficulties so what better way to support them than with a rainbow themed event that raises money for the charity as well as giving shoppers a weekend of fun.’
‘We’re delighted shoppers came and joined in the fun, and with the funds raised for The Rainbow Centre. Congratulations also to the winners of the three prizes.”
Founder of The Rainbow Centre, Helen Somerset How MBE, said: “We couldn’t be more pleased that Fareham Shopping Centre has put on this colourful weekend of events in aid of The Rainbow Centre. It was a fantastic few days and we really are thankful for the donations received as a result of the Wish Upon a Rainbow event.”
